I recorded this version of Cherokee Shuffle in 2007. I've had many people download the tab on this one (available here). Here's one thing I didn't mention....it's a pretty hard arrangement!
My dad is a banjo player, so I grew up with the ringing syncopation of Earl Scruggs in the house. This version of Cherokee Shuffle strives to imitate a banjo player's rolls, slides, and pull-off's with the right hand holding a flatpick. In the coming weeks, I want to teach exactly how this is done. It will be a step-by-step process, though, so check back often!
Let's get started!
5 Banjo Rolls on the Mandolin
Here are 5 "rolls" that you can use on the mandolin. The 1st four are in the Cherokee Shuffle arrangement. Practice each slowly and evenly 100+ times until they become second nature. Pay careful attention to the timing and pick strokes.
